A suicide bomber in Kabul killed more than 50 people and injured dozens more after targeting a crowd of Islamic scholars to mark the Prophet Muhammad ‘s birthday (peace be upon him). There are fears that the death toll might rise as hundreds were packed into the big hall near the airport of the Afghan capital, used to host weddings more often.
“Hundreds of Islamic scholars and their followers had gathered in the private banquet hall to recite verses from the Holy Quran to celebrate the Eid Miladun Nabi festival,” said Basir Mujahid, a Kabul police spokesman, as stated by Pakistan’s Tribune.
It shows how sectarian extremism has profoundly penetrated the society imported from within by the home-grown radical elements of the fanatic idealogies which dismiss Islamic pluralism.
