General Frame of Reference (GFR) Language and Literature

The Academy of Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers
(APDUMT), Jamia Millia Islamia in collaboration National Testing
Service (NTS), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore,
Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India organized
a five-day workshop on Conceptual General Frame of Reference (GFR)
Language and Literature. The workshop was attended by sixteen
scholars/experts from different disciplines of language and
literature.

The aims and objective of the workshop were to finalize the script of
103 pages covered under the above mentioned theme. It dealt with the
salient aspects of linguistics, namely, phonetics, phonology,
morphology, semantics and syntax involved in studying and
understanding language as a subject.

Prof. Shamim Hanfi, former Head, Department of Urdu, JMI and Professor
Emeritus expressed his satisfaction over the work done by NTS and
underlined the significance of the topic covered in the workshop. He
added that the work undertaken by NTS and finalized in the workshop
should be published after due consideration as it will prove good
source for authentic information.

Experts conveyed that it was need of hour to take such initiative for
the professional development of Urdu teachers and student along with
other Urdu loving people. They also expressed their satisfaction about
the quality and standard maintained throughout the document.

Prof. Ghazanfar Ali, Director, APDUMT appreciated work done under the
aegis of NTS and gave his valuable suggestions for incorporating to
make the said work more appropriate from the users point of view.

The experts and scholars who attended the workshop include – Prof.
Khalid Mahmood, former Head, Department of Urdu, JMI, Prof. Wahajuddin
Alvi, Head, Department of Urdu, JMI, Prof. Shoeb Abdullah, Head,
Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education, JMI, Prof.
Numan Khan, Dr. Dewan Hannan Khan, NCERT, Prof. Shehpar Rasool, Prof.
Ahmad Mahfooz, Dr. Suhail Farooqui, Dr. Khalid Jawed, Department of
Urdu, JMI, Dr. Roohi Fatima, Faculty of Education, JMI, Dr. Wahid
Nazeer, APDUMT and Dr. Ahmad Khan, Dr. Zakir Husain College.

Dr. Zubair Shadab, NTS, CIIL, Coordinator of the workshop, thanked all
the participants and also extended his gratitude to the APDUMT for
making this workshop a successful endeavor to provide a quality work
of linguistic in Urdu.
