The Department of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is going to organize GIAN Course on “Controls for Renewable Energy and Microgrids” from May 29 to                June 03, 2016 which would be conducted by Prof. Adel Nasiri, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA and Director of Power Electronics and Electric Motor Drives Laboratory of USA.

This course is designed to cover different aspects of Grid Control of Renewable Energy sources particularly Solar Photo voltaic and wind. India is trying its best to provide quality electrical power to all the citizens of the country. During past few years government has taken a lot of initiatives to provide power from clean and green sources of  energy to make environment pollution free. It is the time of providing power from renewable energy sources. In India 14% of total installed capacity of 2,95,000 MW of power generation is from renewable energy sources at present. Grid  control with distributed sources of power generation is a   challenging task and a lot of research is currently happening in this area. Prof. Nasiri will be discussing theoretical aspects of these challenges and real time implementation of grid integration.

Prof. Adel Nasiri shall be sharing his research findings and experience with the participants during his stay of one week on the campus. His research interests are renewable energy systems including wind and solar energy and energy storage. Prof Nasiri is also currently an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid.

The GIAN Course shall be formally inaugurated on May 30, 2016 at 10.00 AM at Faculty of Engineering Auditorium, JMI.

Smt. Jyothi AroraJoint Secretary (Transmission), Ministry of Power, Government of India shall be the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function.

Prof. Adel Nasiri shall be the Distinguished Guest in the Inaugural Session of the programme.

Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI shall preside over the function.

Faculty members and research scholars from Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Departments and Engineers from Industries are expected to attend the programme. Around 70 participants from different universities including IITs and NITs will be attending this one week course.

Prof. Majid Jamil, Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI, is the Coordinator of this programme.
