In the present epoch, Can we find a religion like Islam which gives
remarkable emphasis to education? Islam aims to lead people from
darkness to enlightenment through education. One can cite number of
prophetic texts apart from the quran to bring the importance that
Islam gave for acquiring knowledge. Once Rasool kareem pbuh asked his
followers to be prepared to go even China in search of knowledge. In
another context, the Holy prophet pbuh declared that it is mandatory
for each and every Muslim man and woman to acquire the basic
knowledge. These two instances expound the importance Islam gave for
acquiring knowledge.
Islam never made any discrimination amidst materialistic education and
spiritual education. Since every person has a body and soul, he
requires both materialistic and spiritual education. But the modern
man fails to understand this aspect and consequently he concentrates
only in accumulating materialistic knowledge. His ignorance makes the
modern man to think that Islam is meant for spiritual enlightenment
and hence it has no contribution for the upliftment of materialistic
knowledge.
A deep and systematic study of Islam based on Holy Quran and Hadith
will undoubtedly reveal that, there is no branch of knowledge that is
not referred toNowhere do we find a religion like Islam which gives
remarkable emphasis to education. Islam aims at leading people from
darkness to enlightenment through education. One can cite any number
of hadith a apart from quran to bring the importance that Islam
attaches to acquiring knowledge. Once Rasool kareem pbuh had asked his
followers to be prepared even to go to China in search of knowledge.
One another occasion the Holy prophet pbuh had declared that it is
mandatory for each Muslim man and woman to acquire knowledge. These
two instances express the Islam’s importance to acquiring knowledge.
Islam doesn’t make any discrimination between materialistic education
and spiritual education. Since every person has a body and soul, he
requires both materialistic and spiritual education. But the modern
man fails to understand this aspect and consequently he is absorbed
only in accumulating materialistic knowledge. His ignorance makes the
modern man think that Islam is meant for spiritual enlightenment and
hence it has no contribution to make in acquiring materialistic
knowledge.
A deep and systematic study of Islam based on Holy Quran and Hadith
will undoubtedly reveal that, there is no branch of knowledge that is
not referred by the Islam. Islam provides fresh pieces of information
in terms of social behavior, judiciary, general health, medicine,
environmental studies, ecology, astronomy and similar branches of
learning. It is an indisputable fact that Islam is the perfect
religion which provides guidance to the righteous and pious people on
how to be a goodman in this world. That is why even some non-Muslim
intellectual like Bernard Shaw and MK Gandhi use glowing terms when
they refer Islam as a religion.

The ordinary people by and
large do not understand this aspect and they invariably come in a
conclusion that Islam is only for spiritual fulfillment. They do not
understand that Islam is meant for the well being of the entire
humanity. Parochialism makes them ignore the fact that Islam is
perished against intolerance, hypocrisy, exploitation, terrorism and
similar vices which we encounter in everyday life.
Moreover , Islam does not approve of habit
of giving mere lip service of the lofty principles expounded in the
Holy Quran. Quran asks “Why do you preach things which you do not
practice in life ?”.
At the same time we should not forget that
one cannot get spiritual bliss through rationality alone, because
divinity begins where rationality ends. Inorder to be a devout Muslim,
one must have also faith in the unknown things. For the true worship
of almighty Allah, it is imperative that one should follow the
footprint of the prophet Muhammad pbuh and his true follow him.

To follow the footprint of the Holy prophet
pbuh one should know deeply about the ‘Kaul’, ‘Fiyl’, ‘Haal’ and
‘Sirr’ of his Holiness, the prophet Muhammad pbuh. These aspects are
expounded respectively in Shariat, Thareeqat, Haqeeqat and Ma’arifat.
It one succeedes in mastering these branches of knowledge and
practicing them in his life he can be started to be on the path of
becoming a complete man.
Through ordinary people consider science absolute truth, wise man of
the view that it is not absolute truth but mere hypothesis. That is
why corrections and modifications are effected on popular scientific
theories. Quran, on the other hand, is absolute truth which does not
require any alterations or modifications till the judgment day.
In the last decades of the 20th century new discoveries are made which
enable people to gather knowledge swiftly and and easily. The
introduction of computers, internet and E-mail communication help man
to have easy access to knowledge. The enphoria generated over these
inventions often makes ordinary men think that, these gadgets are far
superior to principles expounded in Quran. They are thoroughly
mistaken. They fail to understand that these gadgets have never
succeeded in disproving any doctrines explained in Quran. Moreover,
undue dependence on these electronic gadgets makes modern man slave to
these machines. As a result, he fails miserably in making use of his
powers of discretion.

Excessive dependence on electronic gadgets
also undermines his moral code and discipline. Then small failures
will lead him to frustration, and even to suicide. This calamity will
not appear in the life of a pious man. Strong religious foundation
will definitely come to his help in moments of dejection. We all know
that suicide rate is very low among Muslims. It is their moral
behavior that helps them in not thinking about comitting suicide to a
large extent.

If one uses electronic gadgets as his seventand not as his master, he can lead a better life. Then he will realisethat there is no conflict between religion and science. We shouldunderstand that one will not succeed in accumulating knowledge on the
shaky foundation of hypocritical knowledge. There for we should use
science and technology as ingredients to construct a unique structure
of knowledge based on the doctrine of Quran. Then we will be better
placed than we are today. Such a scenario will be useful to the
humanity at large and this in turn will pave way for world peace and
co-existence by Islam.Badrudheen Ali El Farthwavi is doing a special intensive course from
