Muslims give support to Catholic choristers in IndonesiaA

ccording to a famous local Muslim official, Muslims on the Moluccas give their homes to thousands of Catholics participating in Indonesia’s first National Catholic Choir Festival if they need a place to live.

More than 7,000 Catholics from all 34 provinces descend to Ambon, the capital of the province of Maluku, to take part in the festival, or Pesparani, which begins on Oct. 27. The six-day festival is being organized by the Catholic National Pesparani Agency for Creation and Growth, known as LP3KN.”If all Ambon hotels and lodgings are fully booked, our Catholic brothers and sisters are willing to be accommodated by Muslims living in the area.

Muslims here understand that the festival belongs not only to Catholics but also to all citizens in the province,” Abdullah Latuapo, The People of Indonesia are open to all religions. It also shows that Indonesians with their different religious backgrounds can live in harmony, “the prelate said. He felt the gesture also underscored how far the region had gone after sectarian unrest threatened to tear apart the region. The province was the scene of sectarian violence between Muslims and Christians around the turn of the millennium that claimed about 5,000 lives.
