CELEBRATION OF A NABI MAWLID – BY IBN RAJAB HAFIDH, IBN TAYMIYA, IBN JAWZI,

HAFIDH IBN KATHEER: ABDUL WAHHHAB

The following are some of the passages on Milad un Nabi ‘s confidence in the celebration by the
Leaders of religions whose followers reject the celebration these days.
Hafiz Ibn Kathir and Qadi Shawkani wrote: “The Days of Allah apply to the day on which Allah is made”
Allah the All-Powerful has blessed mankind. For example: Banu Israil ‘s freedom
From Firawn’s Slavery [Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Ibn Kathir; Qadi Shawkani, Fath al-Qadir] “Friday is a special day for Muslims, for it is the day Allah made Adam
(Salaam-alaihis). [Muslim, Book of Jumua; Tarikh Ibn Kathir, vol.1, Adam ‘s Story].
Hafiz Ibn Kathir writes that on the day that the Prophet released Thuwayba, Abu Lahab
(sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was born. [Ibn Kathir, Sirat an-Nabi, The Prophet’s Birth] Hafiz Ibn Kathir wrote: Once upon a time there was a King, Abu Said Malik Muzaffar-a man of goodness
Deeds. Whenever he saw a lack of water he would create a well in his country. He does, too.
Many Islamic Study Centers have been created. He will invest half a million dinars per year on
Hosting a meeting of his men celebrating the Prophet’s birthday (may Allah bless)
To him, and give him peace). [Ibn Kathir Tarikh, vol. 13, The King Abu Said story] Imam Ibn Taymiyyah, of the Saudis and Salafis, writes,
“Whoever celebrates the Eid Milad un Nabi through the Prophet ‘s love and reverence (May
Allah forgive him, and give him peace), and Allah will reward him. He also reads, if anyone
Celebrate Milad with Prophet ‘s love and reverence [peace be upon him], he ‘s going to have the
“Major recompense” He states that Milad-un-Nabi gatherings are only performed in Muslim communities
With reverence and love for the Prophet by Muslims (May Allah bless him). [Fatawa Ibn Taymiyyah of Majma, Vol. 23, p. 163, and Iqtida’ us-siraat-ilMustaqeem, p.
294, 295, and 297).(1)
Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab writes: Thuwayba, who was Abu Lahab’s freed slave;
Fed milk to Rasulallah. Abu Lahab set Thuayba free at the time she told him that a
Son was born at a house of his parents. After Abu Lahab ‘s death he was found in a
Dream, in which he said I’m in extreme punishment but on Mondays this is reduced. He
Showed his forefinger and said that I’m going to suck it out, because it was with that finger that I released
Thuwayba told of the Prophet ‘s birth, and she also fed the Prophet
Milk …… milk.
Ibn Jawzi says: Abu Lahab is that kafir that was clearly stated in the
Quran. Quran. If that person can be rewarded for celebrating the Prophet’s Milad, then
Imagine how wonderful a Muslim’s reward will be when he is celebrating it [Ibn Abd al-
Wahhab, M., Sirat ar-Rasul, Milad an-Nabi Mukhtasar] The following is evidence that Prophet’s birthday (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) is celebrated
This is appropriate in the form of a meeting. Otherwise Hafiz Ibn Kathir would have neglected to mention
It’s like a good deed and Hafiz Ibn Taymiyya wouldn’t say there would be a big deal
Reward for doing exactly that. Some people believe King Abu Said introduced the
Celebrating the occasion. This is not real, since in the 5th Hafiz Ibn Kathir notes
Century after hijra (AH) also celebrated it with a meeting by a king called Malik Shah. [Tarikh] Ibn Kathir, Malik Shah’s biography] Some people contend that not even the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was
Raised Rabi al-Awwal the 12th. This claim is without basis, as Hafiz Ibn Kathir has
It was addressed in the Sirat an-Nabi. She says the majority of the scholars agree with the
Prophet Rabi al-Awwal was born on the 12th. Proof of the people who don’t
Agree that’s low [Sirat an-Nabi, vol.1, Prophet’s Birth] Muhammad ibn Ishaq reports that on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal the Prophet was born. [Sira: Sir
Ibn Hisham, chapter on Prophet ‘s Birth]. Ibn Ishaq was born in 75 AH and was a Tabii. Theirs
The book is the oldest text in Islamic history available on Sira. Sira’s first book was published by
Uqba Musa ibn. This book isn’t available for use any more.(2)
The Ahl as-Sunna honors the Prophet’s Milad (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) with devotion and affection
Love. Love. When someone doesn’t celebrate it, we don’t call him a kafir, because Milad ‘s question

Is not influencing a person’s aqida. Celebrating this should not be divisive
Among Muslims.
Hafiz Salah ad-Din Yusuf (one of Hafiz Ibn Taymiyya and Shaykh an-Najdi ‘s great followers)
Wrote:
At the time of the Prophet ‘s birth (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam), to give charity to the needy or
To build a masjid – we consent in Milad’s celebration of this type[Yusuf, Salah ad-Din, Milad-
Un-nabi, p. 92] …
Hafiz Ibn Kathir writes: Prophet(sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) on the day of the birth
Shaytan yelled a lot. [Ibn Kathir, Sirat an-Nabi, The Prophet’s Birth] From the story of Ibn Kathir we can see that to feel sad on the Prophet ‘s birthday
(Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is Shaytan ‘s way, not Moslem ‘s way!
Imam at-Tirmidhi writes: Abdullah ibn Abbas recited SurahMaida ‘s third chapter,
By the Quran. A Jew who was seated next to him noticed it and said to Abdullah, “If that verse is what you are saying
It was announced to us that recited, we were going to make the day an Id. Abdullah ibn Abbas replied,
On that day there were two Ids when this verse was announced. One such was the Hajj
Day and Friday [at-Tirmidhi, Tafsir, as well as Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Sura 5, verse 3] Allama Ibn al-Jawzi wrote a novel, Milad an-Nabi, in which he gave very strong proof
Allowing Milad to rejoice.
Ibn Taymiyya writes in his book Iqtida al Siratul Mustaqeem [Al hadeeth print, p. 266],
How have some people innovated to deal with Christians at the birth of ‘Isa u or
Can Allah reward them for the Prophet ‘s love (saws) and veneration for him
Their Ijtihad and their Love.
For our part, we are commemorating the Mawlid for no other reason than what Ibn did
Taymiya said, “Of the Prophet ‘s love and veneration. Can Allah award us
In conjunction with this love and effort, may Allah bless the one who has said, Let alone what
Christians say their prophet, and Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi) can be praised.
Wasallam) in any way you like, and assign all honors and rank to his essence
All beauty, for its merit there are no limits which any speaker ‘s speech might touch.
[The Imam Busayri] Imam Ibn al Jawzi said of the Noble Mawlid, “It is year-round security and
Glad tidings that will satisfy both wishes and desires.
In his Tarikh [History] Ibn Kathir said: He [Caliph Muzaffar] used to honor the nobleman
Mawlid organizes major festivities for him in Rabi ‘al-Awwal. He was a smart, brave, fierce King
Smart, experienced and just warrior. Can he be generous to him, and ennoble his grave. Cheikh
Abu al-Khattab ibn Dihya wrote a book about the Prophet’s mawlid (sallallahu) for him
Alaihi wasallam) called al-Tanwir fi Mawlid al-Bashir al-Nadhir [The Enlightenment] With respect to the Birthday of the Bringer of Glad Tidings and Warner] and the King has praised him
With a thousand dinars to it. His reign lasted until 630 [Hijri] died when he was besieging
The French after a glorious and blameless childhood in the town of Acca [Acre, Palestine].
In Dhikra Mawlid Rasul Allah, Ibn Kathir says, at page 19:
Birth of the Prophets’ Night (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is a beautiful, noble,
Blessed and Holy Night, a Night of Gladness to the Believers, sweet, luminous and of
Incredible size.
Imam Al-Hafiz Ibn Al-Jawzi said in Meelad ‘s description: It takes peace and tranquility
Throughout the year and a good news to get your wish and inspiration.
In his book Importance of the Right Direction, Ibn Taymiah says, p. 266, 5th line from the bottom of
The article, published by Dar Al-Hadith, is as follows: As to what people are doing in the course of the
Meelad, and as a competitor to what the Christian is doing during the time of
Christians are birthdays or an act of love and respect and a symbol of appreciation for them
Noble Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), surely Allah will reward them for that
Ijtiha: Ijtiha. Ibn Taymiah then said: While Meelad was not practised by (Salaf), they were
We did so because, from the Sharia perspective, there was no argument to it.

The birth of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was Allaah ‘s greatest favor on mankind.
That means the Prophet’s Milad (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) is one of the Days of
So, we will consider it, Allah.
Hafiz Ibn Rajab writes: It is recommended that you fast on those days when Allah is Most High
High has always given us blessings. The biggest favour that Allah has put upon us
With, is the Prophet’s sending down (may Allah bless him, and give him peace). And Allah
The Highest says in the Quran: I have favored you among nations and sent a prophet to you.
Of you, [Ibn Rajab, ltaaif-ul-marif, p. 111] The Prophet’s uncle al-‘Abbas (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) wrote poetry that celebrated the birth of
The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam), in which the following lines are found:
The earth shone, the firmament barely contained your sun, and we were born
Thanks to the radiance and light and guidance route, can pierce through. [The Suyuti, Husn
Al-Maqsid, Mawlid of Ibn Kathir, Fath al-Bari of Ibn Hajar.].
Ibn Kathir addresses the fact that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi) according to the Sahaba
Wasallam) praised his own name and, in the middle of the war, recited poetry about himself
Hunayn to inspire the comrades and frighten the enemies. He said the same day: “I am
The Prophet! This is not a lie. I am his son ‘Abd al-Muttalib! [Dhikra Mawlid an- Ibn Kathir
Nabi] Nabi
Therefore, the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) was pleased with those who praised him
As it is the order of Allahu ta’alas, and He rewarded them with what Allahu ta’ala gave
He prays for them, and sends them gifts. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya claims the Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) prayed that Allahu ta’ala would help Hassan ibn Thabit with ruh al-
Qudus (the Holy Spirit) as long as the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) helps him
And his verse. Similarly, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) recompensed Ka’b ibn Zuhayr’s
Poem of praise (radi Allahu anhu) with robe (burda).
Hasan ibn Thabit (radi Allahu anhu) recited the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi) poetry
Wasallam) announce on the day of his death:
I say, and nobody can blame me
Yet to all that one lost:
I will never stop praising him.
Perhaps I’m going to be doing that
To Paradise forever,
With the one chosen for whose
Of that, I think, help,
And to that day I dedicate myself to
All my strivings. [Notes to his Seerah ibn Hisham, p. 797, Karachi, Oxford Press.] Ibn Kathir, Al bidaya wal nihayat and Dhikra Mawlid Rasulillah, the cities, Paradise and the
The heavens were painted and angels in continuous processions flew about, the palace of
Chosroes was shaken and the 1000-year-old fire stopped burning.
Both these events happened at night and in the Prophet ‘s moment (sallallaahu alaihi
Wasallam) was born. So, it is not ‘eid’ on a particular day, but it is Allah’s absolute blessing
ta’ala to humanity, for which purpose its commemoration is required.
He was the most noble and ideal man Allahu ta’ala created and brought up as a servant
By his birth, he raised him on the night of the Ascension and
Revealed the Holy Qur’an to him. When the development of Allahu ta’ala rejoiced at the Prophet’s advent
(Sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) on the day of his birth, and what about us, for whom he was born
Greatest favour, and the way by which religion of Islam was given to us? Isn’t it illogical
To tell, We must not rejoice that day, when all the heavens and all things did so, in
Perhaps the most auspicious way?
Muslim recounted that, it was said by Abi Qatada (radi Allahu anhu) that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi) was
Wasallam) was asked Monday about fasting and he said ‘that’s the day I was born.’
Hadith is strong evidence of the significance of a Prophet’s commemoration (sallallahu)
Alaihi wasallam) Worship birthday.

In his book Lataif al-maarif (p. 98) Al-Hafiz ibn Rajab al-Hanbali describes this hadith of
Muslim said, “The days Allahu ta’ala honored and favored him are good and fast.”
Servers.
It is incumbent not only on Muslims but also on all men to rejoice at his advent, the day of
his conception.
Al-Hafiz ibn Rajab al-Hanbali said, “The greatest favor Allahu ta’ala has bestowed on this
State is Prophet Muhammad’s birth (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) when he was sent to
Mankind. Therefore we study and note the favor of Allahu ta’ala to send the Prophet (sallallahu)
Alaihi wasallam) that day, by fasting.
Therefore, commemoration of the birthday of the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) by some sort of
Worship was analogously derived from the great scholars of jurisprudence, starting with the fasting,
Who concluded that all ways of worship are meritorious according to the Qur’an and the Sunna
Perform on a day like that. It involves reciting the Qur’an, openly or quietly, singly or in
Congregation, praising among the most meritorious the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam)
Forms of adoration, eating, charity, and remembrance of Allahu ta’ala.
