e all know that as Muslims Tawhid is the king of all affairs, the gravest of all matters, the ultimate of all truths. We are to show not a whit of negligence with regards to the purity of any of its aspect.Ibn Al Arabi, Al-Ghazali & Ibn Taimiyyah’s Tawhid interpretations

For my part, I have learned the following three important angles of Tawhid from the corresponding three scholars:

  • Tawhid Al-Ubudi, that all forms of worship and good deeds are to be performed only for God, from Ibn Taymiyya. You can also call it Tawhid in ethics.
  • Tawhid Al-Fa’ili, that all happenings and events in the universe are to be attributed only to God, from Ghazali. You can refer to it as Tawhid in cosmology too.
  • Tawhid Al-Wujudi, that all reality belongs only to God, from Ibn Arabi. Tawhid in ontology, it not only encompasses but also justifies and grounds the former two.

Ethics, cosmology, and ontology —enwrap all dimensions of your existence in the sacredness of Tawhid, and proclaim like a true Mawhid: Allah, Allah! La Ushriku Bihi Shayyaa!
