fter being pictured helping the victims of the suspected terror attack in Manchester, a woman in hijab was hailed.

High profile solicitor Nazir Afzal said the woman was “far more reflective” of the Muslim community than the attacker, after three people had been stabbed on New Year’s Eve at Manchester Victoria station. A defendant was reported to have been yelling Islamic slogans while he was being loaded into a car.

In the attack two passengers, a woman and man in their 50s, and a British Transport Police officer were knifed. It was pictured the woman in hijab comforting the pair of commuters with her arm around the female victim. Two other members of the public were also pictured, as were two police officers.

Mr Afzal said: “Awful news but Manchester has shown how it responds to those who try to divide us.“The woman in hijab helping victims is far more reflective of Muslims than the idiot with a knife.

“Wishing those wounded a speedy recovery.”

Another Twitter user replied: “The woman in hijab shows the caring side of humanity and reflects well on the reality of the Muslim community. She deserves our thanks.”

Another said: “Reading reports about the attack on the Victoria Station and the only photo that should go viral is the Muslim lady wearing a hijab to help the victims. Okay there are nice people. We can’t let a few’s actions taint our view of the many.’

Journalist Jake Simons added: “This woman in hijab supporting the Manchester attack victims, as well as all the police and spectators who jumped in, showswhy we will win and they will lose. Makes you proud.”

On Tuesday, police confirmed that they treat the “frenzied” attack as terror-related. A man, 25, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

And the officers raided a newly built semi-detached house in Cheetham Hill on Tuesday afternoon, a mile north of the city center where the attack took place.

Greater Manchester Police continues to appeal for video footage of the incident, which occurred a short distance from the 2017 terror attack on the Manchester Arena.
