Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, the secretary general of the Muslim World League, recently paid a five-day visit to India and addressed Friday prayers at Delhi’s renowned Jama Masjid. Fridays are customarily when a ‘Khutbah is given before the Jum’ah prayers. He firmly stated during his “Khutbah,” or sermon, that Islam has no place for extremism and believes in defending humanity. This visit holds significant importance as it highlights the strong ties between the Muslim World League and India that showcases the commitment to promoting peace, unity, and understanding amongst different faiths.

 

Al Issa is widely respected for his efforts in fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting a moderate and tolerant understanding of Islam. He is known to be close to the Saudi Crown Prince MBS and represents the reforming phase of Islam in the Royal Kingdom. Jama Masjid, one of the largest and most renowned mosques in India, was the desired chosen location for Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa to offer Friday prayers. The historical significance of this mosque, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, adds to the solemnity and reverence of this occasion.

During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al- Issa met with the Indian President Draupadi Murmu after holding extensive conversations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. He also met with prominent Indian religious scholars, community leaders, and government officials to discuss various issues concerning the Muslim community in India. The discussions focused on ways to promote religious harmony, counter-radicalization, and resolve any pressing concerns faced by Muslim communities.
