n Friday, the Shahi Fatehpuri Masjid in Chandni Chowk of old Delhi announced the mosque will remain closed until July 4. The announcement comes a day after the national capital ‘s historic Jama Masjid shut down its doors following the increase in Covid-19 incidents.

The decision was announced via a video message by Mufti Mukarram Ahmed, imam of the Fatehpuri Masjid. “We have had discussions on this subject for some time. It was observed that people didn’t follow the norms despite repeated requests. Senior citizens and kids still entered. The number of cases in Covid is growing, and this is being done as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all, “Ahmed said.

Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam had urged mosque heads in the city on Thursday to take a call on the closing of mosques.
