Pope Francis prayed that "those who have died should be accepted into His peace by the Most High; console their families; and protect the wounded."

Pope Francis prays for synagogue attack victimsOn Sunday at the Angelus, Pope Francis expressed his closeness to the city of Pittsburgh, USA and the Jewish community there in particular.

In a shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill neighborhood, 11 people were killed, and several others were injured. After the synagogue attack a suspect was placed in custody.

In his remarks at the Angelus, Pope Francis prayed that “those who have died in synagogue attack should be accepted into His peace by the Most High; console their families; and protect the wounded.”

In truth, he said, “we are all wounded by this in human act of violence.” Pope Francis prayed that the Lord would “help us to extinguish the hotbeds of hatred which are forming in our societies, strengthening the sense of morality, reverence for life, moral and civil values, and the holy fear of God who is Love and the Father of all.”
