The family of the 65-year-old, who died on Monday, reportedly declined to cremate him because of fears he may have succumbed to novel coronavirus.

As social stigma shrouds Covid-19 patients‘ bodies, many of those cases have come to the fore.

While local police and councillors have tried to persuade the family, their efforts have failed. It is then that seven men, identified as Abdul Rabh, Munir, Ishaq, Nasir Ali, Shoaib, Imran, came forward and cremated the man.

“India is renowned for their tehzeeb Ganga-Jamuni. When we heard of this, we agreed to perform the old man’s cremation,” Abdul Rabh said.

They called an ambulance, and they performed the last rites of the 65-year-old following appropriate Covid-19 protocol.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said Telangana needs to ramp up its Covid-19 testing while the state’s recovery rate has improved.

Union minister G Kishan Reddy, speaking to reporters, said, “Recovery rate is good in Telangana too, but I feel that the number of tests needs to increase.”
