Allah (SWT) has appointed Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as the distributor. It is for this reason the Qur'an declares: 'And, (0 Esteemed Messenger,) We have not sent  you but as a Mercy for all the worlds."

True meaning of obedience to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri-Word For PeaceT

he Prophet (SAW) turned his face towards the Ka’abah. The direction of prayer was fixed according to the wish of the Prophet (SAW), which makes it evident that the pleasure of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is certainly the pleasure of Allah (SWT). This concept is further elaborated when in the Quran it is stated: ‘Allah along with His Messenger (SAW) has a greater right that they should please Him.’ (9:62)

In this verse two personalities are mentioned but the Dhamir (pronoun) used is singular, signifying the reality that even though the personalities are different but in terms of authoritativeness are one.

This teaches us that Allah (SWT) will accept the repentant and shower the blessings of forgiveness on those who have pleased Prophet Muhammad (SAW). At another place it is stated, ‘And We exalted for you your remembrance (by annexing it to Our everywhere in the world and in the Hereafter).” (94:4)

The above verse does not simply say, ‘We have raised your remembrance, but adds ‘it is was done for your sake (laka), that is for the sake of the Prophet (SAW). This concept has again been elaborated in the Qur’an, in the words, “(0 Beloved!) Say: ‘If you love Allah, follow me. Allah will then take you as (His) beloved and forgive your sins for you, and Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever-Merciful.” (3:31)

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is being commanded to call the people towards him and give them the message of Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness and mercy. Through this link the forgiveness of Allah (SWT) is being showered upon those who accept and it also indicates that to be attached to Allah (SWT) one must access this through the path of the Prophet (SAW).

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Indeed I am the sole distributor and the grant is from Allah.” This hadith expounds the concept of the dual attachments, to Allah (SWT) and to the Prophet (SAW). In the case of attachment to Allah (SWT), you are the servant of Allah (SWT) and in the case of the attachment to the Prophet (SAW) you should be obedient.

Allah (SWT) is the Giver; this is an integral belief of Tawhid, He is the Giver of blessings, mercy, and forgiveness, indeed of everything, However, Allah (SWT) has appointed Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as the distributor. It is for this reason the Qur’an declares: ‘And, (0 Esteemed Messenger,) We have not sent  you but as a Mercy for all the worlds.”(21:107)

Humanity receives this Mercy through the Prophet (SAW) who is distributing it on the command of Allah (SWT). This Mercy is open to Muslims and non-Muslims alike as Allah (SWT) is the Creator of all, irrespective of whether anyone believes in Him or not.

The whole article can be summarised in the following saying of Ibn Taimiyyah: (SWT) has made the Prophet (SAW) His Own representative in His directives and injunctions. So in view of this, it is not legitimate to differentiate between Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (SAW) in these matters” 2

Conclusion:

It is clear that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has an esteemed status in the sight of Allah (SWT), as is evident through what has been cited, but more than this, if an individual wishes to attach themselves to Allah (SWT) and gain His Mercy, this journey cannot be void of obedience to and intermediation of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
