JMI placed among top 10 universities in NIRF India Ranking

JMI has been ranked at the 10th position in the country in universities category, improving its position from 12 last year.

ignificantly enhancing its ranking, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) has been in the top ten universities for the first time in the National Institutional Ranking Framework of the MHRD (NIRF) India Ranking Report -2020 released today by Hon’ble HRD Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank.’

JMI ranked 10th position in the country in the category of Universities, improving its position from 12 last year.

The university has been placed at 16th position in ‘overall category’, enhancing its ranking from last year’s 19th position. The overall group comprises the IITs, IIMs, IISc, other major academic institutions and universities.

This year about 6,000 organizations participated in the NIRF.

Expressing her delight at the university’s success, Vice-Chancellor Prof.Najma Akhtar said, “The accomplishment is all the more significant because of the challenging time that the university recently faced, and also because of intensified ranking competition. She also attributed the success to the University’s enhanced understanding of teaching, placements, study, etc. and hopes to do more in the coming years.

The University’s Faculty of Law was ranked 9th, the 10th Faculty of Architecture & Ecistics, the 19th Faculty of Dentistry, the 28th Faculty of Engineering & Technology and the 34th NIRF-2020 Faculty of Management.

The NIRF rating is based on criteria such as instruction, learning and services, study and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusiveness and understanding.

Also worth noting here is that JMI retained its place in the coveted Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings-2021 published last Tuesday for the third consecutive year. JMI retained its rank at 751-800, even as this year’s number of universities ranked by QS increased.

JMI ranked 15th among Indian institutions which also includes IISc and IITs. QS World University Rankings rank 6th among JMI universities in the world.

JMI’s Engineering & Technology recently strengthened its rank in the Times Higher Education(THE) Subject Ranking-2020, which is based in London. It increased its ranking from 601-800 last year to 401-500 this year, a jump of 200. Within India its rank is 11 among all higher education institutions, while among universities it is in 2nd place.

JMI’s computer science also made it to the list of the best institutions offering the topic for the first time, and also strengthened its rank in the THE Subject Ranking 2020 in physical science content.
